The Glittering Mile
The Pink Mile, the Golden Mile, and the Glittering Mile – there have been many names conjuring the magic of Darlinghurst and Kings Cross, Sydney’s premier night time destination and the perfect place to celebrate Sydney Mardi Gras 2022.
This year, the festivities really take off around Eastside Sydney with the return of Oxtravaganza and the addition of the Glittering Mile festival.
The Glittering Mile is where it all began. In 1978 ‘the party that became a protest’ started on Darlinghurst Road – we’ve come a long way since those days and for two weeks Mardi Gras will return to the Cross to celebrate our LGBTQI community in camp sophistication and glamour, amidst the neon.
Oxtravaganza is back for its 6th year, and though the official parade may have relocated, Oxford St – the Pink Mile and the beating heart of Sydney’s LGBTQI scene, plans to party on with local businesses ramping up the glitter-vibe.
Over 100 businesses have joined forces – expect bottomless brunches and alfresco dining, cabaret shows and cosy cocktail dens. Retail offerings, history talks and walks or live music, viewing parties and art exhibitions. In 2022 all that glitters will be gold (or maybe pink!). There’s so much to do Eastside this Mardi Gras, so come join the party.
On the night of the Parade, Mardi Gras viewing parties will be held at various venues around Kings Cross and Potts Point – make sure you book a ticket – with some of Sydney’s most ferocious Queen’s ensuring you have a fabulous night darling! One of the bonuses of viewing at a bar or restaurant is the live drag performances on stage during the parade broadcast – it’s the next best thing to being there.
